Hi, I’m Hassan Id Mansour, a passionate tour guide and the founder of Mounatas. Since I was young, I’ve dreamed of sharing my Amazigh culture and the hidden beauty of Morocco with travelers from around the world. Through Mounatas, I organize authentic journeys that explore the Atlas Mountains, the Sahara Desert, and Morocco’s ancient cities — combining adventure, culture, and connection. For me, guiding is more than a job — it’s a way to tell the stories of my land, my people, and my heritage. Every step tells a story, and mine begins with the mountains.

Mounatas is a local tour operator based in Imlil, a Berber village at 1,740 m in the High Atlas and the starting point for climbing Mount Toubkal (4,167 m), the highest peak in North Africa. It was founded by mountain guide Hassan Id Mansour, and our team of guides, cooks and muleteers comes from the Imlil valley. We organise:

Toubkal climbs: 2 to 3 days from Imlil or Marrakech, from $250
Multi-day Atlas treks: Three Valleys, M’Goun, Lac d’Ifni and Jebel Saghro, 3 to 7 days
Sahara desert tours: 3 to 10 days from Marrakech to Merzouga and Fes, from $400
Day trips from Marrakech: Imlil, Ourika Valley, Ouzoud Waterfalls, Agafay Desert and Essaouira, from $75

The word “Mounatas” has its roots in the Amazigh (Berber) language and culture, where it refers to the act of coming together for a common purpose. It embodies the spirit of community, cooperation, and collective effort—particularly when people unite to work on something as a group. In traditional Amazigh society, this concept reflects a way of life where individuals support each other through shared labor, whether it’s farming, building, or celebrating cultural traditions. It’s about solidarity, mutual support, and working hand-in-hand—values that have long been at the heart of Amazigh mountain communities.

Amazing experience! 2-day trip to the summit of the Toubkal, with the best sunrise ever seen! It was great because of our guides Hicham, Mustafa and Mohammed! We booked this tour and it was totally worth it! On the day self we climbed with Lahssen. He was a great guide and we felt very safe and secure.The food during the two days was amazing and we really liked it. The final climb to the top is challenging but really do able if you’re fit.
